Greetings, esteemed readers of GQ magazine! Allow me, Mes the Jeweler, to introduce myself as your guide through the realm of luxury timepieces. Today, I am thrilled to delve into the world of celebrity fashion and reveal some of the most stylish yet affordable watches adorning the wrists of the rich and famous.
Table of Contents
Timothy Chalamet’s Cartier Panthère
First up, we have Timothy Chalamet rocking a Cartier Panthère. It’s a high-end piece, but it’s not crazy. It’s very subdued, and he’s wearing a lady’s size, which I like. It makes other men feel comfortable rocking a piece like this. As you can see, I have a ladies’ Rolex over here that will only cost you around $4,000 from my shop, as opposed to getting a 36mm and paying close to $7,000. Timothy makes it cool to rock something like this, and you’re saving a lot more money. The Cartier Panthère retails for around $4,000, but you can find vintage ones for closer to the $2,000 range.
Will Ferrell’s Oris ProPilot X400

Next, we have Will Ferrell wearing an Oris ProPilot X400. It has a little pinkish hue to it, which reminds me of the Oyster Perpetual Rolex. For these special colours, you can pay a much higher price, but this Oris is very similar and costs a fraction of the price. I think he wore this one at the Barbie premiere, which I love. He got creative and wore something with that pinkish hue.
If you’re looking to spend under $5,000 on a gorgeous watch, this one costs close to $4,000. I’m a Rolex guy, so if I were to buy any watch in that $5,000 range and under, I’d go with a simple Rolex Datejust 36mm. I would let go of this 1601 vintage piece for $4,000 right now. It has a nice, tight band, and it’s extremely durable and made to last a lifetime.
Tyler, the Creator’s Casio Quartz
Tyler, the creator, is always doing something cool and different. He’s definitely a very fashionable guy. Here, he’s known for his crazy Cartier, but this is a Casio quartz with a very classic rubber strap. I like the patina dial; the little patina yellow dial is kind of cool. A Casio like this can be found for under $30. It’s very cool and sporty, and Tyler is rocking it luxuriously. It cost him, basically, a sandwich and some chips.
Kid Cudi’s G-Shock Bape Affordable Watches
Kid Cudi is rocking his G-Shock Bape watch, which is extremely colourful and fun. You see, he’s rocking it with his pink hair, giving off a very retro vibe. This is more my style. If I were to go for an affordable watch, this would definitely be the first one on my list. The cool thing about G-Shock is that it’s a watch designed for the military, something you see soldiers wearing.
Then you have somebody like Kid Cudi, who’s a celebrity, rocking this courtside. G-Shock stands for gravitational shock. The G-Shock was designed to be an extremely resistant watch, something you can literally fight wars with, go hiking with, or do all sorts of crazy stuff with. For a very small amount of money, you can get something very durable that will probably last you a lifetime, just needing a battery change once in a while. G-Shocks are timeless watches. You have Spike Lee rocking one courtside at a Knicks game, wearing the Knicks colours.

The cool thing about G-Shock is that they’re always doing collaborations with celebrities. There was a collab with Ed Sheeran that I really loved; it was a yellow and black G-Shock, which always pops. Always be on the lookout for some of these cool collaborations that G-Shock does. Some of these pieces, just like Rolex, go for a premium. These G-Shock collabs also go for almost double to triple premiums over their retail value.
Steph Curry’s Movado Museum Classic
Steph Curry, the greatest shooter of all time, is wearing a Movado Museum Classic watch. I love it. It kind of reminds me of the Onyx dial that Rolex does, but it’s not going to break your bank. This Movado has no hour markers except for the big gold circle at 12, and I also love the shape of the hands. I think it’s a very clean watch. This is something I would add to my collection any day of the week. It’s a lot of watch for a little amount of money.
Steve Jobs’ Seiko Quartz
Steve Jobs, a legend, is wearing a Seiko Quartz. Honestly, he’s making me want to get one right now. It looks cool, vintage, and classic. The cool thing is that when someone like Steve Jobs wears this watch, it goes to auction for $42,000, making something that was probably under $100 go for that amount. It shows you that the value is inside the person, not in the watch.
Pete Davidson’s Casio Classic
Pete Davidson is rocking a Casio classic. It tells the time digitally and has that whole black look. It’s clean. He put on his hoodie and threw on that watch, and it’s a comfy look. It’s a lot of watches for a small amount of money, and this one looks like a G-Shock. I thought it was a G-Shock, but it cost way less. This one will run you around $42.95.
Mark Wahlberg’s Timex Ironman
Mark Wahlberg is wearing a Timex, another legacy watch brand that makes affordable timepieces. Here, we have Mark Wahlberg rocking a $77 Timex Ironman. It’s a cool look—sleek, black, and subdued. I like to tell the time digitally sometimes; you don’t have to look so deep to see where the hand is. You just read the time. It’s that easy.
Jack Nicholson’s Timex Easy Reader
Jack Nicholson, probably one of the greatest actors of all time, who can afford any piece, is rocking a Timex Easy Reader. I love it. It looks like a classic watch—something that could be expensive if it said Patek Philippe—but it says Timex and is extremely affordable. Legends like Jack Nicholson are rocking it, so why not you?
Bill Murray’s Timex Easy Reader
Bill Murray might have gotten a little jealous of Jack Nicholson. He said, “I need one also,” so here we have him rocking an Easy Reader, a little bit different than the other one. This one has a silver second-hand. I like the contrast on the watch. You have the white dial, the silver bezel, and the silver lugs with the black hands and black numbers.
I think it’s a nice contrast. This is an everyday watch to rock and enjoy. We have all the rappers now rocking two watches on their wrists. I think Bill Murray was the first to do it. He’s got a Cartier on his left hand and a Timex on his right hand. I love it. Trendsetter.
Ronny Chieng’s Vintage Mickey Mouse Watch
Ronny Chieng, sometimes the biggest flex is rocking something you find in an antique shop. Here we have Ronny Chieng rocking a vintage Mickey Mouse watch, pushing boundaries. He’s rocking a nice velvet green suit jacket and then throwing on this Mickey Mouse watch. You can tell he’s just having fun with it. He said, “I’m going to come to this classy event with this Mickey Mouse watch.” That’s the cool thing about these watches.

Don’t be afraid if you’re not a celebrity. Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and do something like this. This is fun and a conversation starter at any event. You don’t always have to rock high-end brand pieces. A lot of people show off their Richard Mille, which is limited to 75 pieces. You can’t find another one. But you won’t find another one of this vintage Mickey Mouse either. That’s the real flex.
Conclusion
I hope after watching this video, you guys understand that the watch game is not only for the rich and famous; it’s for everyone like you and me. You can find yourself some gorgeous watches for $100 to $1,000. Knowledge is power. I’m Mes the Jeweler, out.
